However, Ibrahim Zadran and Mohammad Nabi put on a 135-run partnership to revive the innings. Zadran was eventually dismissed for 174, but Nabi went on to score a half-century, finishing on 65.
Afghanistan needed to score 15 runs off the last over to win the match, but they could only manage 12, falling short by 2 runs. It was a heartbreaking defeat for Afghanistan, but Sri Lanka will be pleased to have qualified for the Super 4s.
